Our Story

1952 – Edwin Roth & Co (Pty) Ltd is founded by Mr. Edwin Roth, selling and servicing George Fischer copy lathes from Switzerland

1960s – Diversifies and adds the offering of CNC machinery from Japan, representing Fanuc, Makino and Okuma & Howa

Early 1980s – Acquires the Japanese agency for Hitachi Seiki

1989 – Purchases a German company named Hegenscheidt South Africa, later renamed to Rotmac Machine Tools (Pty) Ltd; adds representation of two well-known German agencies, Deckel and CHIRON-WERKE GmbH;  begins importing specialised CNC machinery from Japan, Europe, Korea and Taiwan

2003 – Named one of top four distributors in the world by KIA Machine Tools

  • Mori Seiki., CO from Japan bought out Hitachi Seiki, we now represent one of the most prestigious Machine Tool Companies in the world.

2004 – KIA took over the entire production of Hyundai Machine Tools to join together in becoming Hyundai-KIA Machines

  • Edwin Roth Holdings (Pty) Ltd formed to distribute shares; Robert Wyche and Peter Roth takes over daily business responsibilities
  • Received World Wide Excellent Distributor Award, one of top four distributors in the world by KIA Machine Tools (WIA Corporation)
  • Become sole distributors of TekSoft CAD/CAM Systems for Geometric Technologies from the USA
  • Received prestigious Sales Achievement Awards from Mori Seiki

2005 – Received prestigious Sales Achievement Awards from Mori Seiki

  • Received World Wide Excellent Distributor Award by KIA Machine Tools (WIA Corporation)

2006 –  Acquires the agency for F. Zimmermann

2008 –  Robert Wyche was appointed Group Managing Director

2009 – Edwin Roth Group was acquired by Edwin Roth (Pty) Ltd

2010 – Geometric Technologies launched CAMWorks and CAMWorks Solids

2012 – Acquires the agency for Blaser Swisslube

 2013 – Streamlined and rebranded as Rothco; specialised divisions formed
